How can I make sure I'm not being over charged on my electricity bill?

I live in an apartment complex and I feel I'm being ripped off on every electricity bill. Can I request to see how many kilowatts I used each month? Do they legally have to show me, or can they refuse?

Thanks in advance.

I believe legally the kilowatt usage has to show on your bill. You can go to your apartment complex office and request to see the meter when you get your bill, there should be a bank of them located outside of each building, there's no reason why they wouldn't allow this.

Another thing you can try is to purposely try to use less electricity for a month and compare your bills. Do this by unplugging electrical devices while you are away, turning lights off in rooms you are not occupying, and adjusting your thermostat to a lower temperature. Try this for just one month and see how it compares.

The kilowatts you use should be shown on the bill. At least I know mine shows it.

But, do you know how to tell how many kilowatts you used for the month?
