KONY 2012 - Your opinion?

As you may have heard there has become alot of attention to a video on youtube called KONY 2012, which in short terms is about making Joseph Kony famous, so the people will know who he is and making goverments to support Uganda in the quest of capturing Joseph Kony.

I would be very happy to hear your opinions about the video :)

Devils abdocate - as usual, that's me! I hate to be a little 'different' here, but has the Kony fella been tried yet in a DEMOCRATIC court of justice yet? Hmm, thought not. Has proper evidence been produced of the so-called beatings / torturing and murdering? Thought not. So we're supposed to believe this nice American (apple pie) guy that RECKONS this Kony fella (public US socalled enemy number ONE) has done bad things, just because HE says so. Who's trying to make a name for who's self then?

If the video says he's a bad man, then it MUST be true then eh?

Personally, I'm all for the statement 'INNOCENT until proven guilty'. So, what is this? Trial by public opinion?

I would just like to point out that where the video says not to fear I think this may be encouraging the wrong approach. I think fear is a constructive emotion that keeps us safe, and that we really should be scared that this type of oppression has ever existed, or might continue to do so if something isn't done. Think of the strength of your behaviour (in defence of the right thing to do) when you are afraid, and you can see that it's much more likely to get results than when you don't bother because you’re not worried.

I am a bit undecided on the Invisible Children campaign, for example, I don't agree with funding the Ugandan Army - you only have to do a bit of research to find out the problems behind that. However, I do agree with raising awareness of this issue. There are a few complex issues behind this campaign, but regardless, there is one good thing about it - it is making people aware of the problem. I could go on and on about the problems associated with it, but all I hope for is that people know about the issue and try and make a difference. Because one thing is certain, sitting back, doing nothing and ignoring it is definitely the wrong thing to do.

To critics of the campaign, I suggest reading this: http://s3.amazonaws.com/www.invisiblechildren.com/...

As with all political issues, it is not a simple matter. But I believe everyone should read about it as much as they can, form their own opinions on the matter and take appropriate action. I, for one, would love to be involved in 'Cover The Night', however, I will not be donating money to the charity. I also disagree with all military action, but I understand it is probably the course of action that will have to be taken for the problem to be resolved. For example, I disagreed with the way Bin Laden was taken out, but it was inevitable. That's just the society we live in.

I hope this is helpful to you :)

if the guy really is bad then i support a way to get rid of him, not one that necessarily involves the US, though, cuz we all know what happened last time we tried overthrowing someone.

that said i don't see how watching a thirty minute video on youtube qualifies someone as a social activist. needs more research.

I am very suspicious of it, and the effort leads me to have a negative opinion of him.
