I was reading the obituaries and noticed something weird?
There were the list of survivors' names and some had a name of one gender and a name in parentheses of another gender. Were there more than a few people in this family transgendered? I'm not judging them I was just wondering.
Also. This is not the first time I've seen this. I had no idea what to classify this question as.

the person in the parentheses is the spouse. so if i had a child named sarah who was married to jim, in my obituary it would state, "Survived by daughter Sarah (Jim)."
