Why are blacks "proud" to be?
black? It always seems more like they are trying to convince themselves and not other people.

What do you mean? The african americans you talking about?
If it is, then yes many african americans are proud and some also carry themselves with attitude.
The partial reason for this was they were once subdued as slaves. Now that is over, they have thicker skin and don't let others walk on them. Also usually minorities in a country try and make themselves stand out just like the african americans.

Why does it matter to you?
Does it affect your personal life?
Does it somehow impact your work environment?
Is there any reason whatsoever that the behavior of any particular race is crucial to how you live?
If not, then what the hell difference does it make? Let people be how they are.
