Is it bad etiquette to smell the soup before i buy it?
Hi, I like to smell my soup before i buy it. I have this place I go to with several varieties of soups and I just smell the ones I am interested in buying. I have noticed other shoppers look at me when I do that. Is it a bad etiquette? Is there a better way to it?
Have a blessed day!

I think it's perfectly OK to give the soups you are interested in a quick sniff. Otherwise, how do you know you would like it?
One's senses of taste and smell are so closely entwined... Have you ever noticed that, when you have a cold and your nose is stuffy, you are not hungry at all? Or, when lunchtime nears and you smell food cooking, your stomach rumbles and you start to salivate? Even when only a moment ago, you weren't hungry at all?
Go ahead and sniff your soup. If the other customers stare, turn on the charm and flash them a smile. That'll win them over.

"Do you want to smell it, too?" Oh, that takes the prize!

If you smell the soup from a distance away, it's okay. But if you bend over to the extent where your nose is just barely touching the soup, then yes it may not be a good idea.

if you are removing a cover and placing your face close to the soup yes it is bad etiquette and unsanitary . a better way is if there is a soup you are interested in that you haven't tried before ask for a tasting sample. which you can taste, sniff etc.

It is bad etiquette and unhygienic. It's not perfume. The only way is to buy the soup and if you don't like it, make a note and you'll remember for next time.

If you don't stand directly over the soup and instead waft the odor toward you, there's nothing wrong with it. The flavor of soup is 90% odor.
