Air Force- Can I live on base while my husband is in tech school?
My husband is in the air force and starts tech school sometime in april. And his tech school is only 3 months long, so we can't live with him while he's in school. But would my son and I be able to live in on-base housing in Lackland while he's in tech school? Or are only certain families allowed to live there.

Sorry, but your husband must be permanently assigned to Lackland (or any other base) for you and your son to live in housing.Once he graduates and is assigned to a permanent station, you can go with him and he can apply for base housing. Not everyone gets into base housing right away because there are a limited number of home units. If you all don't get base housing, he will receive a Quarters Allowance to help offset the costs of living off base.

In order to qualify for housing he must be stationed there for longer than 6 months. Sometimes if housing is below a certain percent of occupancy they will allow AD family members who are separated because of unaccompanied orders, Reserves/National Guard, Retirees, and some government workers to live in housing but minimum again of 6 months or longer. As his Tech is less you can't attempt to move into housing. Also so you are aware housing is not furnished only basics like fridge, stove, dishwasher and blinds on the windows. You forfeit all BAH and also pay cable, Internet and phone out of pocket. So you are better off staying where you are now.

Everyone else has pretty much covered your answer. But make sure to tell your husband that he may apply for base housing as soon as he receives his orders. When he receives his orders, he needs to contact his gaining bases housing office and request to get on the waiting list. The reason this is beneficial is so that your family may have a house waiting for you upon your arrival. I have done this for both of my duty stations, and it has proven to be quite helpful. Hopefully this provides some additional help. Good Luck!

nope. 'base housing' is for 'permanent party'....people assigned to the base as their duty station. even if the tech school was longer than 6 months and would qualify as a PCS - i wouldn't. his primary dity in tech school is to LEARN HIS JOB, and not be saddled with the duties of taking care of and running a house. he will be plenty busy.
even if he is AD and it waulifies as a PCS, i doubt the air force would pay to move his family to tech school, and THEN on to a duty assignment.

No, you cannot
Even at his first duty station, more than likely you will have to live off base.

no. Base housing is only for personnel stationed at that base on PERMANENT orders.

I don't think you can unless he's stationed at a permanent base.
And technical school isn't permanent.

No, you can only live with him at his permanent duty station.
