I was caught shoplifting again, but I am mentally ill.?
PLEASE DON"T BE IGNORANT TO THIS QUESTION>>>I am Mentally ill (diagnosed by the state of Michigan) bi-polor, hear voices, see things, sctyitzofrenia, insomia disorder, anxiety disorder, suicidle, and now I belieive I must have kleptomania.
I have already had a charge of retail fraud 2, and was told to pay a fine of $250 and a non reporting probation. Sadly, now I have a felony charge of retail fraud over $1000 because I got caught again....so, Michigan state law says it's a felony charge. What should I do or does anyone know what I am looking at getting? Will I get jail? I was taking ambeien during the day thinking it was my blood pressure pills( because they look the same) and was doing crazy things...that was in my case stealing crap. I am thinking of getting a GOOD lawyer instead of a court apponted lawyer, but is there anyone out there that's kind enough to help me figure this out, and or tell me what there going to do to me?

Additional Details
I am diagonised all the things above. I receive state disabilty, because of it. I use to lead a normal life worked from 17 years old till my final break down at 33 years old and my whole world came crashing down when my mother died slowly over a year of lung cancer. I was her caregiver and had to take care of her at home until the day she passed there. She was both my mother and father/ mentor/ bestfriend, in my life...so it complety broke me( I have had a lot of trama other than that in my life, but that pushed me over)

I find it hard to believe that you have all of those conditions. It seems more like you are looking for an excuse for being a common thief. The death of your mother would NOT cause all those medical conditions. They are chemically based, not even based.
If you truly think your alleged mental illnesses caused you to do this, then you should be talking to your lawyer about it, not us. Likewise with the sentence. Since you've done it before, you will likely face jail time and they aren't likely to buy your excuse. It sounds like you've picked up an abnormal psychology book and are self-diagnosing the keptomania and some of your other conditions.
Own up to your mistakes. Take your medication and quit trying to use your mental illness to excuse being a thief. It's not a valid claim.

The very fact that you are on here looking for a way to get out of the consequences for your actions suggests to me that you are certainly well aware that stealing is wrong. Regardless of your mental health issues, (and I guarantee you have NOT received a diagnosis of ALL you have listed above!) you need to step up and start accepting responsibility for your actions. PERIOD.
Simple fact is, bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are major SEPARATE psychiatric disorders which you would be prescribed more medication than just ambien--anxiety, auditory and visual halucinations, suicidality and insomnia are sub-symptoms of the aforementioned psychiatric disorders. Anxiety and suicidality can also be sub-symptoms of major depressive disorder as well. Kleptomania is something entirely different and needs to be diagnosed by a psychiatrist--not used as an "excuse" for bad decisions.
Fact is, regardless of what you are going through in your life or what has transpired, it was your decision to break the law not once, twice but three or more times. Having worked in the field in many different capacities myself AND having suffered much trauma and have dealt personally with mental health issues, I will tell you that you and only YOU are responsible for YOUR actions. You are using your mental health issues to excuse your poor behaviour--and sorry, but I am not buying it--nor will anyone else.
Time for a reality check. Get it together. Address your sh!+ and take responsibility for your actions. YOU did this--it is YOUR fault--stop making excuses and blaming it on your mental health. Sorry to inform but you have no one to blame but yourself.

I am also mentally ill and I am different than you because I accept my mental illness and the limitations I have and have taken responsibility to monitor my bi-polar disability and take my meds when I know I need to take them and I also take the full responsibility to make sure I take my meds or I may become manic or depressed and either hurt myself of someone else. I don't want to hurt anyone, including myself and that is why I am fully aware of my mental state at all times. This is one of the times when my meds are correct as I am able to write and think clearly. Were I to not take my meds I wouldn't be capable of writing as this for my mind gets all mixed up and I get angry for no reason and who knows what I may write of say. My suggestion to you is to do what Oprah Winfrey tells her employees to do and that is, "PLEASE BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENERGY YOU BRING INTO THIS SPACE".

Regardless of what you say you have been diagnosed with, you know that shoplifting is a crime, but you did it anyway. Quit looking for excuses.

Why do you keep reposting this? It doesn't matter that you are mentally ill, the prisons are filled with mentally ill.
