Sims 2 vs Sims 3 (Sims 2 better, why?)?

Question

Ok before buying the Sims game, I was considering buying Sims 2 but then I saw Sims 3 and it looks ALOT better.

I've watched loads of Sims 2 videos and still can't understand why Sims 2 is supposed to be better? 
People say the characters are more 'realistic' and the 'game play is better'
I don't think either are 'realistic' the Sims 2 Sims look ugly and the Sims 3 look better but still a bit cartoon-ish.
And the game play? Whats the difference? Why was it better? I understand they had lottery and the getting eaten by flies but don't think its that great.
Sims 3 graphics are ALOT I mean alot better.

Am I the only one who thinks Sims 3 is better? o.e

In terms of graphics I'm in favor the Sims 3, But in terms of playing the actually game - Interactions, storyline, features, effects the Sims 2 is so much better. I mean there was so much in the sims 2 you couldn't get bored. University, weather, ,magic!. Unfortunately Ill never go back to the Sims 2,because well I tried many times but I cant let go of the look and graphics of the Sims 3. 

But again the Sims 2 didn't have bugs flying left and right, and also Sims 2 had so many mods to add to careers. Being a Chef in the Sims 3 is like ehhh. 15-30 recipes to cook. Sims 2 Chef 100+ different meals and dessert. You can run your own business....blah blah blah let me stop.

Sims 3 Better Graphic Wise, Sims 2 Better Everything else. If only the Sims 2 and graphics of the Sim 3 and I'd be a happy camper.

I love the Sims 3 but there were alot of good expansion packs for the Sims 2. But personally the best Sims for me has got to be the original. You can get it now with a ll the expansion packs in one!
