Unless your bird has consumed a lot of Avocado, then as it is still alive and well (I hope), then do not worry as if it had consumed enough to kill it , It would now be dead.

The symptoms Avocado toxicosis are Lethargy . Loss of appetite, followed by Heart failure.

Go to this site, "avocado poisoning in birds" and you will find more information.

Get him to a vet ASAP!! Don't know if you have a carrier, but if not a box with enough holes poked it in and secured top with a small towel in the bottom will do.

If you don't have a vet, you can look up Birdchannel.com or use the search term "Bird Talk Magazine' to help find one. Where are you located geographically? You can use a yellow pages directory or begin calling vets for help.

You need to get started calling a vet NOW, hopefully you can find an avian vet. If the vet you first call can't help, ask for a vet reference that can. He could die if you don't. He has been poisoned. I'm not trained in avian medicine, but I watch my local non-profit tv station's bird club show by the Long Island Parrot Society called "The Bird Club" and they have featured guests such as avian vets who had to treat birds who ate poisionous objects in order to prevent death that included treatment by flushing the crop, which only a vet can safely perform.

In all situations where the owner of a poisioned parrot (don't think they covered avocado poisioning on the show specifically) along with the vet was on the referenced show, the owners referenced symptoms similar to your lorikeet. The vet noted in all cases, death would have come if left untreated.

:( Were you aware that avocado is highly toxic to parrots?

The skin and pit of this popular fruit had been known to cause cardiac distress and eventual heart failure in pet bird species. Although there is some debate to the degree of toxicity of avocados, it is generally advised to adopt a "better safe than sorry" attitude toward them and keep guacomole and other avocado products as far away from pet birds as possible.
