    Depends on where you live.

Your driver's license is a government issued ID issued by your state government.

A passport is a government issued ID.

A military ID is government issued.

An official state issued ID may also be obtained for persons who do not drive - usually without charge from the DMV department on your state.

Some county governments issue IDs as well but they are not widely accepted as IDs. For instance if you return something to Home Depot without a receipt they will accept it but only with a government issued ID such as a non-expired driver's license, military ID, official state issued ID or a Passport either from the US, Canada or Mexico.
