Connect your pc to the modem directly if you are unsure of the info needed to get from ISP then open your connection manager up or right click on the connection and check the connection status to find how the Cable provider is connecting. I had a Firewall that was setup and I thought all was good but no go until I got the Host name off the status page and entered it into the Firewall before it worked. Other than that just download the manual and read up. It is a lot easier than having someone do a walk through. People ask this question all the time and it does get old. You can always ask a more specific question later but try it first with the manual first. Just remember to secure the wireless. That is were you need to concentrate more effort, it is the weak link in security compared to hard line cat wire.

Chances are have the router set to get its Public IP address Automatically (DHCP) and put the Host name in.

    1. Plug the modem into the WAN port on the router.

    2. Done.

Seriously, that's all there is to it. By default, the router has the correct settings to connect to a Cable modem.

Yes you can do this just access your router by 192.168.2.1 and you will get a complete panel to reset or setup your router. If you are not able to do that just visit http://www.dlinkroutersupport.com/ and get a certified technician to help you out from your D-link router problem.
