Anyone have experience with food and mood?

I have been wondering if feelings of depression or anxiety may be liked to poor diet choices. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any at all- could be specific foods that can make you feel better, certain nutrients that can make you feel better, lack of specific nutrients that may cause you to feel worse, addition of certain chemicals, additives, etc. that make you feel worse, general diet habits such as when you eat or how much at a time, or food combining... anything! Thank you!

I wasn't suffering from depression or anxiety. I switched to a vegan diet because vegans just plain don't have heart attacks or strokes, and they are not likely to get cancer of the breast or colon.

A vegan is like a vegetarian, only more so. Vegetarians come in all sorts. Some eat fish, some eat eggs, cheese, dairy products. Some vegetarians aren't very good at it. They eat meat every now and then. Vegans don't eat anything of animal origin, not even yogurt.

On my new diet, I have more energy and my mood is better. I'm in a little better mood than before. That's all. I have no urge to grab a hamburger and make my mood a little worse.

Without counting calories, overweight people lose an average of about a pound a week on a vegan diet, until they get down to normal weight. I'm naturally thin and I didn't lose any weight.

The food vegans eat costs less than the other stuff, and overweight people start eating less than before, without even noticing it. The food they don't eat is free. That can put a smile on your face.

    Yep.

Doesn't really matter what you've been eating, trying to get "3 hots and a cot" pretty much translates to "better" mental health. (Better than what?, that sort of depends...")

Of course foods that are good for you will probably stick with you more, and give better results.

According to my doc, and several dietitians, best results will occur from eating about five low cal meals a day, frequent on the fruit and vegg, lowish on the carbs.

If you have a psych issue, try combining your meds, taken on the approved schedule, with healthy meals. Don't stop meds based on diet or anything else.

Yes; I notice when I eat junkfood for breakfast I feel lazy, my mouth feels nasty, and I have no energy. However, when I eat an apple for breakfast or yogurt for lunch, I feel energetic and happy, like I can take on the world. Food is directly related to mood and that's where the phrase "You are what you eat," comes from.

omega three fatty acids are identified to upgrade temper. you'll be able to purchase anything known as three-6-nine or fish oil and flax seed oil dietary supplements at such a lot grocery shops. take them everyday. consuming good, exersizing and getting adequate sleep also are principal for temper. taking the omega 3s mainly for a couple of months particularly helped my temper.
