Connecting my laptop to my TV, HDMI or VGA?

I have a Toshiba Satellite p755 and my television is a Westinghouse. I want to be able to connect them so I can watch YouTube and Netflix on my tv sometimes. There's an HDMI port on both, but if I use an HDMI cable, will I have sound? I've heard from some people that I might not be able to get sound by an HDMI and I want to be sure before I buy either.

If the video card supports sending sound then hdmi will transmit sound to the tv. They don't always support sound (on my desktop, I had to hook up a SPDIF cable from motherboard to vidcard to get hdmi to pass through the audio)

VGA is an particularly previous connector. known video reveal units use DVI. HDTVs use HDMI. To be straight forward, sure Blu-Ray will look undesirable with the aid of VGA. HDMI is actual needed in case you opt for severe decision.

i use hdmi to connect mine and never had any problems with sound and the hdmi will give better picture quality. once connected the sound will come through your tv and not your laptop, so this could be what they mean by not having sound.. but hdmi all the way.

I've been using a HDMI cable to hook my laptop to my HDTV for about 2 years now, picture and sound work fine.

Using a HDMI cable you can use the sound from your T.V, but with a VGA cable you can only use the sound from your laptop.
