Question about automatic (self-wind) watch?

I'm hoping there's like a little watch/clock enthusiast community here on Y!A.

My question is pretty simple -- does LACK of use of an automatic watch damage it in any way? In other words, if you don't wear it (and thereby don't wind it) for a long time (weeks, months, a year?), will it spring back to life if you start wearing it again?

Of course, it will be just fine. Who knows how long a watch may sit in a retail store before it is purchased. As it is I own a Rolex and there are times that it sits for months on end without being worn, then I'll decide to wear it; just set it and off I go. There are special boxes that you can buy that will keep your self winding wound.
