Should I play Guild Wars before Guild Wars 2 comes out?

I am planning on pre-ordering Guild Wars 2 because many of my friends are going to get it, and I am an MMORPG fan, I played WoW, LoTR, Aion, Rift, Maple Story, and am currently playing Swtor. So I am definately getting GW2 but was curious if there was some sort of story or something that i need to know before playing it. Thank You!

You can if you want some of the games lore but other than that not much is needed. The game is being totally redone so while it keeps some of the original fun elements that makes guild wars 2 so much fun, the majority of the game is totally different. On top of that if you watch some of the games starting videos you can see they have an amazing basic tutorial on playing the game.

There is a great deal of the Guild Wars 2 world "history" you can learn by playing Guild Wars 1 - see the start of the conflicts that are now part of the gameplay of the new game.

I made a short clip about the links between the games, so you can learn more. Better than I type it out here. :)

Gameplay for GW is different than most MMOGs. It's far faster, and there's a lot more to do. There are TONS of skills but you have to put them together in combos which means that you can use the stuff people have proven to work, or make up your own and try to make them better.

GW2 is set a couple hundred years after GW, there's not much you need to know about the story or setting that won't be explained. But, if you get the Eye of the North expansion in GW, you can start earning points for rewards in GW2.
