anyone know navy ship nomenclature?

I need to know what the widest point of a ship is called, as well as the middle line between the upper deck and the bottom. the areas between the middle and the main deck and the area between the middle and the bottom are called what?what is the bottom called? and what is something behind a ship? USN personnel only. I do need to know what regular sailors call these parts.

Update:

sorry, but middle as in vertically as well? it is sometimes designated by a red line in diagrams and on some actual ships as well

    Widest part is the beam.

The bottom is called the keel.

The back is called the stern.

The pointy bit at the front is called the stem (or bows).

The part that sits below the waterline is called the draft.

The part that sits above the waterline is called the freeboard.

The total height of the hull (without superstructure) is called the depth.

    The centreline is called amidships.

The raised deck at the front is called the forecastle.

The raised deck at the rear is called the poop deck (yup, for real!!)

Main deck is the top most deck at the top of the hull. All levels above this are numbered, 01, 02, 03, etc. All levels below this are numbered 1st, second, third, etc.

The beam is the widest part of the ship.

The hull is the area between the keel, the bottom of the ship, and the main deck at the top of the hull.

Most naval vessels have multiple decks between the main deck and the keel, so that question isn't valid.

Something behind? Behind what? A towed array is towed behind a ship.

The Bow is at the front, and the Stern is at the rear.
