What is the best/affordable folding bicycle?

I'm looking to buy a folding bicycle for convenience and I'd like to know of the best brand? And are there any good ones I could get for around 500 to 600 dollars? Pros/cons of folding bikes? Any info will help! Thanks :)

600 is not enough to get 'the best'

    all folders are compromises

you have to decide what you really want

    light weight

    folding speed

    gears

    good ride qualities

    strong frame

then get the bike that has what you want

you can;t have it all in any bike

for $600 you have to give up most of them and pick one that you really need

    for instance

    google "bike friday"

    expensive but good

they aren;t even quickly foldable though

more like 'if you have an hour and a b unch of wrenches, you can take it apart and pit in a box to ship to europe'

not like 'it folds in 20 seconds to get on the bus'

I ride a bike friday. Mine is a bit twitchy because of the 20" wheels, but it rides nice.

It doesn't lock into folding, but it does fold. Often the most I need to fold is to get

    it into a car trunk.

If this is a supplemental bike (mine actually is) so I use it for commuting and vacations. If I had to do over, I would get a Dahon Speed Uno. It is very simple, belt drive, single speed, coaster brakes. It has a magnetic locking. On my bike, the cables always

    get in the way.

I'd ride as many as possible at your LBS. If you need it to fold because of security or storage, you need to know how easy it is to fold and carry. Like mine, it can't really

be carried folded without tying it up.

Now I do use my bike to explore, and it is nice to have low gears.

Dahon is well know for folding bikes. Go to Amazon and read the reviews.
