Neighbours cats constantly fouling/damaging property - Whats the next step? (UK)?

I know this may get a few jokey comments or comments like "get over it" but im at the end of my tether over this.

Our neighbour bought a cat around 13 months ago. It apparently has something wrong with its digestive system and has trouble going to the toilet. It is constantly fouling our garden. Im not talking about a little 'gift' here and there i mean its like a f**king snail. I swear its trying to write its name over out garden some mornings. Its the type you cant pick up but have to hose down. We have 3 small children and we cant let them go out in the morning on the grass because A: its covered is feces or 2: Its soaking wet from us having to hose it down. Last summer we even found it IN our children's shallow paddling pool. We were on speaking terms with the person who owns the cat and spoke to them about it. All we got out of them was "Well its natural" or "its not his fault" We ended up coming to verbal blows one day..well they called us "bothering c**ts".. chavs aye? -_- We went to the police to ask what we could do. They decided to send around a community officer to have a word & Apparently he got a "mouthful". After that every time we go to the police station they tell us to get in contact with the council or community watch. The council tell us there's not much they can do etc.

We have tried many of these chemical that are supposed to stop cats from entering your yard and also lemons and none seem to work. We cant use of of the high pitched alarms as our next door neighbor has a dog. What can we do? I don't really fancy taking them to court or anything as they are the type to come around with a baseball bat or worse -_-The only other thing we can do is move. Looking at the housing market at the moment we would end up losing 10-20k on our house and we LOVE our house at the moment. Any idea?

Update:

I ment to say we have seen their cat on our CCTV so we KNOW its their cat.

Grrr also sorry for the typos. I'm using an ipad and still getting used to the bloody thing -_- lol

Update 2:

i also forgot the damage of property. We caught it on CCTV about two weeks ago scratching a bird table we bought a few weeks back. I'ts actually damaged the wood stand to the point where its on the verge of not being stable any longer.

Update 3:

100000% agreed with you. I am an animal lover but it should have been put down. I think its a bit lame :( Poor little thing cant walk straight either. We contacted the RSPCA around 4 months ago to ask for their advice and they said it didn't sound like it was in good health..they never sent any one around tho -_- Even after our second call.

Update 4:

@Dr snark. While that would work on a normal cat...well lets just put it like this.. have you ever read the story of hansel and gretel with the breadcrumbs...well this cat would be using something a bit more meaty to find its way back -_- ..

The world is a dangerous place for a cat. People who let their cats roam free know this and accept the risk that Mittens might not come back one day. If the cat were to just disappear one day, how would they know that it wasn't hit by a car or carried off by an eagle or something. Got it?

ADD: Apparently subtlety isn't your thing. I'm suggesting that you assassinate the cat. Put out some poisoned tuna or something.

Cats are protected by law and it is an offence to trap, injure or kill them. However, you could try a water pistol and every time the cat comes into your garden give it a squirt. Nothing powerful enough to injure the cat just enough to give it a wetting. There is an automated option, the scarecrow, which is attached to a hosepipe, and will deliver a water jet when activated by a motion detector, but be aware that water freezing in the pipes can damage the gadget.

Surround an area with a fence (chicken wire etc) that leans in the direction from which the cat will approach. The cat is unable to climb over such an angled fence.

Flimsy plastic roll-up fencing placed on top of a fence etc to prevent cats climbing over it.

Taut wire or string fitted 10-15 cm above the fence-top makes it difficult for cats to balance on the fence.

Specially designed strips of plastic spikes on top of a fence, shed roof, nestbox roof etc to prevent cat from walking on it.

There is a new garden plant, Coleus canina, on the market. It is marketed under the names Pee-off and Scaredy-cat. This plant has a pungent odour that is said to repel cats and other mammals from the garden. It should be available from a number of garden suppliers.

Finally, if these fail you could always get a dog.

I had a nuisance cat in my garden a while back, every time i saw it i sprayed it with a water pistol, it stopped coming in to my place after a while, but yours sounds much worse, there is nothing in law im afraid to deal with a cat, they are considered free spirits, you could get a cat yourself and hope it would chase the other one away, but its risky, they might get on and you would have 2 lots of mess,or your cat might mess in your neighbours garden, a bit of revenge maybe? sorry i couldn't help.

If your neighbors are the type to retaliate, that door was opened when you called the cops. Your two legal choices? Keep calling the cops or take kitty's Mom to court.

Calling cops may annoy them, however "The squeaky wheel gets the grease."

UK law does not cover wandering cats BUT they hate water. So every time time you see it either shoot a water pistol at it or the garden hose.

Works every time. You just need a bit of patience.

Sorry I can't really help you in a positve way.

What you mustn't do is discretely put a bowl of anti freeze out for it, as this will make it ill and die, and not in a nice way.

The usual suggestion is to get your own cat as it will then avoid your garden and go to one where there is no cat, as they are territorial.
