First of all I would not direct this with a generalized statement at Irishmen only. Several Americans join this celebration even if they are not Irish just as an excuse to drink and if you look up why there is a St. Patrick's day in the first place you would have a better understanding of it's meaning behind it.
To answer your question, no and I am Irish, but I did not go out to drink. I stayed home.
