Is it illegal to run a credit check on someone without permission? even if they claim to have done it accident?
I rented an apartment and They did a credit check. everything was fine but shortly after, All of my mail and notices from the property owners were in my fathers name. I double checked my lease and his name was no where on the documents at all. I asked about this and they gave me the run around but then wrote a threatening letter and they changed it saying they accidently ran the check in his name because he was my previous landlord. 2 weeks later i receive another notice with his name on it. is this illegal and how can i stop them?

Of course, it's legal to do a background check. It's merely dumb to do one on someone who isn't connected to your business in any way. lol
What kind of threatening letter could they send you? And, why are you're opening your dad's mail? They're the idiots. I'd simply tell them to forward any letters to your father to his correct address, and if they had any business with you - their real tenant - send it to you.

A landlord can run a credit check on a prospective tenant.
And it sounds like the apartment is in your fathers name instead of yours.
Have your father call them and try to get it settled
