Why do people breed when there are so many abandoned animals out there?

It really p*sses me off. Fair enough your entitled to breed but are you aware how your adding to the numbers? if people adopted an animal and no animal was bred for a year or two then that would really help the abandonment issue and bring the numbers down.

So im wondering why you breed knowing about this issue. Its like me having baby after baby purely to hand over to be adopted.

It's all about making $$$. I know that abandoning pets is bad, but larger pet store companies don't. As a result breeders will keep breeding to get some of the money.

I agree, it is mainly for money. But also...

Many rescue dogs are not suitable first time pets. They can be lovely dogs, really lovely I mean, but eing shut in a small area for ages will mean they are harder to tame. As a first time dog owner, you should get from an experienced breeder, not maybe who shows loads, but has a good reputation. Genetics DOES affect temperament. And, that breeder will probably have interacted with the puppy/dog loads, which is even better. These cannot happen as rescues. So, breeding is good.

Also, some DO breed for the betterment of the breed.

And if NOBODY bred dogs... where would dogs and cats end up?

And also, I think people should not breed dogs because it'll be cute etc; but there are real needs for them. For instance..

Some breeders only breed for certain working dogs. For guide dogs, hearing dogs, dogs for the disabled, often it 'runs in the family' so to say, and they breed for temperament etc; Disabled helpers dog trainers will not look at rescue dogs etc; BECAUSE their temperament and how they deal with situations is unknown, and they need the puppy to be trained practically from weaning.

Gun, police, rescue etc; dogs. The skill is often bred 'in the family', and if you use a working dog, you want a dog which is one of the best of its breed. Breeders will breed for certain traits, health, temperament etc; and you cannot be sure you will get a good deal for a working dog from a rescue dog.

Breeding for family pets is okay, but nobody should breed unless they want to improve the breed, and KNOW they have somebody who will take them.

I myself support animal adoption fully as opposed to excessive breeding.

However people want to breed because in their ignorance, adopted animals could be dirty, diseased, or broken. In other words, "don't know where it's been" syndrome. Whereas certified bred animals are brand new and guaranteed high quality. Similar to the psychological approach of buying new/used goods.

    It's silly.

They do it for the love of the breed and the money. However I dont think they are to blame for the abandoned animals. That is purely down to the owner, they are uneducated filth, scum.

It really pisses me off when people think about some "abandoned" dog *Gasp*, who were originally wild, more then hungry and starving children, all over the world, but dogs get better treatment. unfuckingbeliveable!
