One of the best way to help is to support groups like HSUS.ORG, MERCYFORANIMALS.ORG & FARMSANCTUARY.ORG as these groups are already fighting to improve how animals are treated on factory farms... Another thing you can do is to write letters-to-the-editor of your local paper to make people aware of the mistreatment these animals receive... Maybe you can form a group or club to see if you can get any support from your friends... One of the first things to do is stop supporting factory farming by buying only organically raised meat, milk & eggs... that means avoiding all fast food restaurants which are supplied by factory farms.

It depends on where you want to start. If you want to start in your town, then write a letter or set up a meeting with the town's mayor. Which will be very hard since he is busy.
