If 200,000,000 guns don't make America safe for Skittles, would 300,000,000 help?

Me too! I didn't know they were in danger... except around me and, trust me, whether it's 200 mil or 300 mil guns, Skittles ain't safe around me and my raging sweet tooth! However, let me be serious for one hot minute: This ain't about Skittles.

It's about GUNS. And NRA notwithstanding, it is obscenely absurd that, in a society so rife with violence and crime, that it is easier to purchase a gun than it is to get a license to drive a car! I realize that the right to bare arms is in the Constitution, but Holy Frijoles, Batman! Look at the crime stats! Forget that! look at the "accidental shooting" stats! How many times is a family member or acquaintance killed or wounded by the very gun purchased to protect them?

Guns should be in the hands of Law Enforcement ONLY, with the exception of rifles for HUNTERS, who, through rigorous testing, have demonstrated both proficiency AND due diligence in securing that weaponry. There should be NO SALE OF HAND GUNS TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC AT ALL and the government should do everything in it's power to gather all such weaponry from the general populace at large and turn them into paperclips. There should be enforcement of background checks on anyone attempting to purchase a rifle and a report of that background check should be attached to that file and that file should go to a specific panel of oversight who would then monitor the use of that equipment. finger prints, blood type, psych eval and the whole 9 yards should be attached to anyone who owns a rifle. Again, that would not be true of handguns because no one could legally purchase a hand gun. Why the difference between hand guns and rifles? Because rifles are generally used in hunting but hand guns are designed for one reason and one reason only: To kill people. Why do we need another way to kill people?

"They" say "When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns." And perhaps that is true, but if it is true it is a situation the United States has created and therefore any legislation would have to include a painful cleanup of the situation. But, realistically, the NRA is such a LOUD and well supported lobby that such a measure would never get serious consideration, no matter how badly it is needed. So, the senseless deaths of hundreds of thousands every year will continue unabated. More is the pity. Sure do hope I ain't one of them!

I wouldn't be surprised to see the government ban Skittles as part of the "Eat Healthy" movement. I guess they will pry your Skittles from your cold dead hand.
