How do i format a partition to support windows vista?

I need to install vista onto a partition, i really do not wanna explain my reasons but of course if i am considering vista they must be serious. So please can you help me out with this? My current issue is that when i try to install vista onto any partition it said i do not have enough space for it now last i checked vista did not take up over 97gb...

my partition does not show up in my computer and i forgot how to get to it any suggestions, i have windows 8 right now

    You can format it with NTFS.

    Before installing Vista, Open my computer, then right click on the partition you want to install vista.

    Then Choose Format.

    In that Change the 2nd menu that is the File System Menu to NTFS.

    Then press start

    It will ask 1 question, Choose Yes

    And your partition will be formatted

    format the partition using ntfs file system

    If u hav an windows xp installation disc u can use it to format it by ntfs file system
