Would it hurt my engine too much to unhook 1 fuel injector and spark plug wire?

If you leave the plug wire off it could damage the coil. The only other thing that you could damage driving with a dead cylinder is the catalytic converter. Pumping un burned air through it will cause it to overheat and melt. Other than that, it will just be rough driving. If you change plugs to fix the problem, be sure to change the wires too or you will soon be back to a miss firing cylinder.

If the miss is very bad (total miss), it wouldn't matter if you disconnected the spark plug and injector (because it wouldn't make the miss any worse).

If the miss is occasional, then you will cause more problems by permanently disconnecting the spark plug and injector. So, you might as well leave them hooked up.

There might be an antiknock switch that might activate if the engine knocks too much.

You might cause a problem with the electronic ignition module.

You can temporarily disconnect a spark plug wire to see if it makes the car miss more (as a diagnosis).

    DIAGNOSING YOUR MISFIRE:

It is fairly easy to change plugs or change plug wires to see if the problem follows the wire or the plug. It is a bit harder to change injectors to see if the problem follows the bad injector.

    SUGGESTION:

Leave everything alone until you get home to your tools, then swap parts to diagnose which part is failing.

Yes it would hurt the engine.

The unbalanced vibration would ruin the bearings.

And unplug wire causes massive over spike of the ignition system.

And if it is misfiring part of the time, the last thing you would want to do is disconnect it and make it totally misfire all the time.

Instead, you should replace the spark plug and wire, trying to get it to fire more, not less.

i don,t believe i would do that ! if it starts then just go slow back home if you don,t live too far ! unhooking it might screw up the computer ! even if number 4 is misfiring at least it works a little bit. sounds like a bad plug wire.

I'm not sure about your make/model of car, but mine specifically states in the handbook that I should make no attempt to run the car with a sparkplug removed (to test for spark etc) as it will damage the ECU.

You run more os a risk burning out control modules, coils and possibly the ecm. Leave it as be and drive the car to a shop nearby to have it checked out........gl

Leave it connected and take it easy getting home. Hopefully, home isn't too far.
