Can I fix my computer battery?

My computer battery's life is really low. The first several months I had it, I kept it plugged in all the time, which probably screwed with it a whole lot. Now, it's slowly deteriorating to where it has about 80 minutes of life left at 100%. My dad did the same thing with his laptop, and now it shuts off the second it's unplugged from the charger. Can I fix either of these batteries, or do they both need to be replaced? My laptop, by the way, is a Lenovo, and my dad's is a Dell.

Most likely you need a new replacement. Batteries gradually lose their capacity to store energy over time. Since a new batteries do cost a lot, you can just consider to use the plug in for most of the time.

Battery/ ac adapter has its own lifespan and does not last forever, getting a charger under lifetime warranty from store like topmic.com can help you save some.

Batteries naturally degrade overtime and start to hold less and less of a charge. However if this is happening at a rapid pace, then there is something wrong. You failed to mention anything at all about the laptop that you have, Dell and Lenovo make many different laptops. I remember reading something a while back about this exact problem. The person had the same situation you did the battery refused to hold a charge, to the point that his completely needed to be run off an AC adapter.

Unfortunately in his situation if I remember right, it turned out to be some kind of fault in the laptop itself.

I would suggest that you monthly 'condition' your battery, by this I mean that once a month you use your laptop until it runs out of 'juice' and shuts itself down. However, never completely discharge it or else you will destroy the battery cells, and they will pretty much never hold a charge again. The claim is that this will help your battery in some way get a full deep charge.

The simple solution for both of you may be to just buy a new battery for your laptop(s).

If you find that after replacing the battery you still have problems with it, I would send it in for repairs there may be something seriously wrong.

    Good luck!

You're probably going to have to replace the battery. My laptop used to stay plugged in all the time, which over time kills battery power. Mine shuts off whenever it wants to apparently.
