The Standard is super chich and ultra-trendy WeHo hotel.

The Carlyle is more like an upscale apartment building than a busy city hotel. The suites are smallish and a family would be better off taking connecting double rooms. The management has been known to reduce prices, don't hesitate to ask for discounts!

The Sunset Tower is right on Sunset Strip and has been home over the decades to many Hollywood stars. Totally renovated in 2005, an elegant hotel with a Hollywood history. (They're still trying to figure out how John Wayne once got a bull into one of the top floor suites!)

The Chateau is my own personal favorite hotel in all of L.A. Located on Sunset in WeHo, it's part of Hollywood history, elegant, chic and a second home for quite a few Hollywood stars.

Personally I would recommend The London West Hollywood. They have large rooms and a stunning pool.
