Similes are a comparison using 'like' or 'as'.

'The clown was as insane as a madman'
Metaphors are comparisons without 'like or 'as'
E.g 'The clown was a madman'

Onomatopoeia is a word describing the sound it makes.
E.g. 'Honk'

'Woof Woof'
