I'm getting contacts for the first time, what am I going to expect?

So I'm sick of looking like a nerd, I'm the only one of my friends that wears glasses, and I'm planning on getting contacts. So does it hurt when putting them on? How high maintenance are they? Can they go in the back of the eye? How long can I wear them? What is the best brand of contacts in a reasonable price? As you can see I'm freaking out and I need answers. Thanks :)

I used to wear contacts. It doesnt hurt to put them in but you need to REALLY wash your hands! Even the slightest speak of dirt can be uncomfortable. You should take them out before you go to bed. You should ALWAYS wash your hands before handling them. No high maintenance really just make sure they stay clean and fresh. THEY CANNOT GO INTO THE BACK OF YOUR EYE! If you dont see it roll your eye around if its not in there then you lost it somewhere. Depends on the brand they have dailies, weeklies, and monthlies. When I first got mine they recomended I wear them one hour the first day and then wear them 2 hours the next so the eyes gets used to something being in there.I strongly recomend Acuvue. They are VERY comfortable and they also have the colored ones too. Try 1800contacts.com they have reasonable prices there. Good Luck and have fun! Oh and remember its gonna take like a week or so to get your eyes used to having something in there.

Calm down and take a deep breath! lol

No it does not hurt putting them in. Though for your first couple of days, you'll be able to feel them in your eyes. It's not painful, you're just aware. Also, do not freak out and get frustrated when inserting and removing your contacts! At first it will seem impossible, but you WILL get the hang of it. The first time I started wearing them, it took up to a hour to get my contacts in, but after the first month you'll be able to put them in and out in 2 minutes max.

They are not high maintenance but you do have to take proper care of them (washing your hands before handling them, using solution to clean them, proper storage ect.)

They cannot go into the back of your eye. The doctor will explain all of this at his office.

For the first week you'll be on a schedule for how long you can wear them. The 1st day you can wear them for half a day you'll then add 2 hours to that everyday for a week. The maximum recommended wear time is 14 hours.

I've tried acuvue which is supposed to be really good, but the contact was just too big for my naturally small eyes. So if you have large eyes, Acuvue is a really popular brand.

I use Air Optix Night & Day. They're slightly smaller than Acuvue and you can sleep in them if you want.

All contacts cost different, usually depending how long you can wear them. Daily contacts are the most expensive and monthly contacts (the most common) are an average rate.

My contacts costed $300 for a year supply, but with insurance and a rebate I only payed $120.

A single box of contacts usually costs $30-$50. But also keep in mind if your eyes are two different powers, you'll have to buy a separate box for each eye.

it's usually cheaper to buy abyear supply.

I hope I helped!! Good luck!

I started wearing them 1 month ago.

Because others have answered on some of the questions, I'll just say this:

I loved them at the first time I had them, I didn't hate them. I took me 5-10 minutes to get them in, it was easy. It was only the part when taking them off was hard, because I didn't know how hard I was supposed to touch them to get them off. I was touching very lightly at first, but then I tried a bit harder and I took them out!

It really depends on how fast you learn things like this. The modern contact lenses let oxygen go through, so you could wear them for 24 hours, but your eyes could get a bit tired after that.

It's impossible for the contact lens to go to the back of your eye.

Also, I have myopia which makes my eyes look smaller when I use glasses. My friends told me that I look better without glasses because my eyes look bigger. So contacts give you better coinfidence to :D

    Good luck!

Well, they'r are cheaper at first, but then you have to buy them every couple of months so they end of costing you more. You have to put them in every morning and take them out every night, usually takes 2 minutes each time. You have to buy solution which is about $15 every 2 months, and then use that to clean them every other day.

At first, you will hate them. Getting them in will be tricky, as your eyes aren't used to having things in them. Took me 2 hours to get them in for the first time. No it doesn't hurt, but if you put them in the wrong way then yes they can. You will have to also learn about them, they are now a part of your body and you must no certain facts. (Such as what way they go in, do's and don'ts, etc) After a while you'll get used to them like the back of your hand. They become a simple task like brushing your teeth.

In the long run though you'll love them. Having 20/20 vision without frames feels amazing. Also you might look prettier, though people say I look better with glasses. Oh, and for the love of god don't get colored ones. Don't make yourself loook like an idiot.
