refrigerator runs warm- time to ditch?

I have a 6 yr old Kenmore bottom freezer fridge (yeah, it just went out of warranty) The fridge started to run warm :followed booklet- emptied, pulled plug.Vacummed coils. Waited 24 hrs, put on #4 setting and it worked great. That was 2 months ago. Now it is running warm again. The freezer is ok.

If the freezer is good, I would look at the temp control or the thermostat before I would ditch the whole unit. Compressor and refrigerant must be okay to run the freezer, so I'm thinking just a control issue.

Check and see if you are getting any air from vents if the frig. If not then odds are that your evaporator coil in freezer is frozen. Couple of things will cause this. Your defrost timer is bad, the defrost sensor is bad, or the drain tube is clogged up. In the frig section look at the top by the thermostat you should see a hole with a piece that looks like two little teeth, this is your dial for the defrost timer. Use a knife or screwdriver and slowly turn it counter clock wise until you hear it click. Stop and listen the compressor will shut off and the heating element should come on. You should hear a sizzling or popping noise coming from the freezer. If not then i would say that the defrost sensor is bad. Remove the plastics from inside around the freezer section till you expose the cooling coils. If frozen use a hair dryer to thaw the coil. Once thawed you will see a round, silver object with two wires coming from it. It will be attached to the coil. Inspect it and make it isn't coming apart. If so get the model number from frig and call your appliance store to get a new one. Hope this helps
