Shouldn't Mechanics should design cars?

I saw some previous questions and it seems that some people believe mechanics really know more about cars than anyone else around. So WTF are companies wasting all this money on, designers and staff when they should just hire many more mechanics to get us more cars for lower prices. Don't they know the most about cars, more than any other job title would know?

    Mechanics are experts on repairing cars. Automotive and mechanical engineers are experts on designing cars.
