If the US needs to stop rampant spending, why not cut our military budget?

We spent between 1 and 1.4 trillion dollars on our military in 2011. If we need to cut down on spending so badly, why not start slashing at the place that's obviously using the most?

You start a Debate with a Blatant Lie, and expect people to Agree with you?

$705.6 Billion Spent on MILITARY Defense in 2011. (see Link)

$858.2 Billion Spent on Healthcare in 2011.

$775.6 Billion Spent on Pensions in 2011.

$472.9 Billion Spent on Welfare in 2011 ($744.7 Billion Spent if you include State Spending as well)

$56.1 Billion Spent on Police and Protection for Federal Agencies in 2011.

$93.0 Billion Spent on Transportation in 2011.

$230 Billion SPENT ON THE INTEREST ON OUR DEBT.

$96 Billion Spent on Other, but they BLOCK it so we can't see what OTHER is.

Okay, there are some REAL Numbers. Now I am willing to discuss or Answer your question based on TRUTH, not LIES.

Yes, we need to cut spending, you are Correct.

I'll Agree to a Compromise with you, I'll Support a 30% CUT in Military Spending in 2013, IF You will agree to a 10% CUT in ALL the Other Categories?

How about it? Wanna do the Math on what that will save us in Mr. Obama's Proposed FY 2013 Budget Deficit of $1.3 Trillion (even though we all KNOW it will be $1.7 or $1.8 Trillion in Reality)?

And the ANSWER is: $229 Billion LESS in debt 2013. We will only have a Deficit of $1.4 Trillion to add to the Current Debt of $16.2 Trillion+.

    Not much help really.

We need something else. I'll TOSS in to our Bargain, that we Return to PRE-Bush Tax Rates on all Americans and to Raise Cap Gains Taxes from 15% back to 20%, IF You'll drop another 10% Spending on all those Social Programs?

That math can be done, too. That will Earn is an additional an Additional $88 Billion in Tax Revenue, and Cut an Additional $228 Billion from the Deficit.

EVEN those Cuts and Tax Increases will Save ONLY another $316 Billion, bringing the Deficit down to Just Over $1 Trillion in 2013.

By adding another Trillion $$ to the DEBT, in 2014 our $17.2 Trillion Debt will COST us Taxpayers $270 Billion In INTEREST alone. If we keep the same Cuts for 2014, and ADD another $1 Trillion, in 2015, we'll have to pay over $300 Billion in Interest.

It will be less than a Generation before the INTEREST alone is MORE than the $2.4 Trillion we will be making in Tax Revenues.

HOW do we Pay for ANY Programs, if our ENTIRE Income has to go to pay the INTEREST Payment on what we have Borrowed?

Will we be able to Borrow ANY more? I think not.

Thanks for the question.....Did not mean to be Preachy, lol. Just want to work with people to find The Solution. And how can there be any Agreement if we are Talking with Factual Statistics and Number and Define our Terms from the Beginning?

there is a video, I'll link it in the end, but summarize a few points...

Suppose a new aircraft carrier costs $15 billion to build and lasts 40 years, which is about $400 million per year. Now it costs another $400 million to operate, then cutting the aircraft carrier saves about $800 million dollars, enough to fund government for about 90 minutes.

Lets cut the entire navy. The 2011 Navy budget was $160 billion. That'll buy us 15 days.

Lets cut even more, the entire defense budget, (foreign military aid, foreign economic aid, veterans services) we'll save $930 billion.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0RkWqyn1y4&context...

    Watch this video.

And cutting defense is risky, it needs to be done very, very carefully.

Well, I also spend money on house payments, far more than I spend on anything else.

    Should I slash those?

There are costs to where you slash spending.

    Some costs are absolutely needed.

    Some are not.

We decide that as a people through our representatives.

Seems that President Obama agrees with past Presidents on this issue despite initially siding with you and others.

That tells you there is far more to it than you or I are aware of.

The price may be way too high to slash those costs.

    We'll see.

That is less then 10% of the Budget. 65% goes on Social Programs thus that is where the CUTS should be.
