How can I stop my dog from digging to get out? ?

I have a 2 year old female cattle dog and she has recently started to try and get out of the yard. Whenever we leave the walk out the gate to go somewhere she ends up getting out. We have just moved to another house and I don't want her to start digging here. What can I do to stop this?

Get some 2 or 3 foot high chicken wire ( a flexible hexagonal wire) and bend it in an L shape. Fasten it to the fence and bury the bottom part under the sod. Just lift the sod enough to tuck the wire under it. Then fasten the bottom fence down with camp stakes. This will prevent her from digging out. It isn't an easy job but once done, you can even mow over it and it is permanent. Good luck!

Totally agreeing with "Inacceptable behavior". They are a working breed and need lots of exercise!! She's digging to get rid of the extra enery and because of sheer boardem. Do something with your dog every day weather its jogging, walking, or running on the treadmill like "inacceptable Behavior" said. You need to have dogs that fit with the families energy level. If your not a very active family, a working dog such as cattle dogs, boarder collies, ect won't work with the family and they will develop behavioral issues like your dog. So you need to step it up and tend to your dogs needs. Confining her will only make it worse. She needs room to run.

start exercising her more thats a working breed they have high energy. Take her on longer walks maybe even faster walks like bike side jogs for her. Get a gentle leader if she pulls. If you don't have the time to walk her cross tie her to a treadmill to rid some of the excess energy. Also buy her some puzzle treat toys get difficult ones so she'll have to work her butt of to get the treats out of it. Good luck with your dog!

Don't give her the opportunity! It would be far better to confine her securely indoors, even if you have to have her in just one room. Some dogs will dig, especially if they are anxious, lonely and bored!

Add Fgs. the answer to this isn't to find her a mate!!!

Sounds like separation anxiety, if you have to leave her alone put her in the house with lots of cuddly toys and leave the tv or radio on, leave her for short periods of time and make them gradually longer. Give her lots of praise and a treat when you get back

Confine her inside the house when you have to go out.

Don't leave her outside on her own, keep her safe in your house.

Maybe she is at her oestrous cycle。You should find a mate for her.
