Cars engine won't turn over. any ideas?
My 98 malibu this week is having trouble starting. I turn the ignition and it is trying to start. It only goes if i give it a little gas which i never had to do before. And afterwards the engine smells like gasoline.
Any ideas? I am taking it to a mechanic today and just want advice if possible.

I am not there to see...
But your injection jets may need cleaning.
Did you try any injection cleaners?
Also see if the air filter is dirty or fuel line filter.
In the old days, I would say to see if the float was bad on the carborator... but they have injection now.

I have the idea that you shouldn't get ideas about the problem and then go to the mechanic and tell him what you think. He gets paid to figure out the problem and if anyone goes to the mechanic and says they think it might be this or that, then this or that will get changed even if it's not the problem.
Besides that, as you can see from the first answer, you'll only get guesses on this forum and it won't be helpful at all.
But here's my guess, it is a '98 and I'm just wondering when the spark plugs and spark wires were last changed out.

if it,s trying to start then it,s turning over ! change the fuel filter first ! it might be almost clogged up.
