So on Fringe if Peter is.....?

So last week The Observer told Peter he has been home all along. But this week a past event occurs again with slightly different circumstances. But the people depicted as dead in the past event are alive, and the end outcome is different. So the question is how is Peter home? He has to be in a different timeline still right?

Update:

In addition to the answer below.

The porcupine event occurred out of any realm of Peters influence. They find out about it after it happens. So why would the events that Peter had nothing to do with be altered? He would have had no effect on that situation.

Ok let's see if I can put what's in my head into words.

Peter was erased from existence when he used the machine. But energy can never be truly destroyed just changed. On some level those closest to him (Mainly Walter and Olivia) remembered him on some level (her dreams and his visions). Without Peter in their reality, the events he had a part in were altered, the human Porcupine case being one of them.
