How I can I keep certain birds out of the bird feeders?

The feeders get over-run with grackles and blackbirds leaving little chance for the smaller birds to eat. Any tips on keeping the larger birds out of the food?

If you search for bird feeders you will find all sorts of feeders that can be adjusted for bird size and feeders that are designed just for small birds.

Well, I'm trying to decide if this is discrimination against the Black birds, or concern for the disadvantaged smaller birds. Just joking.

Maybe you could invent a feeder with a hole small enough for only the little birds to enter and make some money off it.

There are some bird feeders that close off when a heavier/larger bird or a squirrel lands on it.

Check the feeders on the top left and bottom left of the left page.

Many "nuisance" birds like the ones you mentioned prefer eating off the ground so I throw bread crumbs on the ground for them. Also, birds don't like to sit on anything smaller than they are so you could use tiny feeders.

um..wipe out the species of tht bird in tht area..haha. kind of out of the box here but if your trying to feed smaller birds then put the feeder in a spot tht the bigger birds cant get to..hope this helps

eg. inside a birdhouse with a small entry

By selectively putting out seed the meanies won't eat.

Thistle seed is a good bet.

Use this as a guide as to what types of seed you put out

(just buy the bulk and blend your own)

If you only feed thistle and sunflower oils you'll eliminate alot of the aggressive "thug" birds.
