I hit my leg pretty hard today. There is now a knot(or bump) about 9 inches below the knee on my lower leg. Its been about 2 hours since i hit it and its not really going down. How long do you think it will take?

Swelling from and acute injury can be reduced with an anti-inflammatory such as ibuprofen(motrin, advil) as well as cold therapy.

Cold therapy with ice is the best immediate treatment for acute injuries because it reduces swelling and pain. Ice is a vaso-constrictor (it causes the blood vessels to narrow) and it limits internal bleeding at the injury site.

Make sure when you put the ice on it is on no longer then 10 mins on and then 10 minute off, this is to prevent frostbite.

Put the ice in a ziploc bag or use a bag of frozen veggies. Cover the ice bag with a thin cloth or fabric so that it doesn't stick/freeze to the skin.

How long it will take depends on how much the injury site was damaged, it will most likely bruise and the colour of the bruise will help you determine how long it will be a knot or bump. Once the bruise is no longer black/purple/red and turns to a blue/green shade that means the knot and bump will go away it most cases.
