Seems like betta fish is having trouble swimming towards bottom?

He floats back to the top, but he's fighting it. I can tell he is trying to stop from floating back up but it's like he doesn't have enough strength not to?? Is there something wrong with the water?

Update:

I just got him. 10 gallon tank. About 78 degrees F. And I don't know that pH levels. Does that help??? He seem perfectly healthy, just like he can't stay towards the bottom.

Also, I have a light on the tank that heats the top of the water slightly... So maybe he is cold? And no filter, they don't need one.

With no real information all i can say is look at his side see if their is a round bump on his side if so. He has Swim bladder disease.

to get rid of (if this is your case):

    1) Stop feeding for a day and do a 25%water change.

    2) Make sure nitrate level is normal

    3) Take a frozen pea dethaw it, cut open skin and cut into fine pieces, place in water and let him eat it.

    Hope this helps,

    John

I don't know, you didn't tell us anything about his tank size, filter, water levels or anything? Without information, it seems pointless to ask a question. If you post information, someone here can help you!

EDIT: *facepalm* All fish need filters, and water changes. He needs a filter, otherwise he will die of ammonia poisoning or get a parasite. I've kept Bettas for almost 7 years, and only two have ever died of old age, ages 6 and 7. Trust me, they need a filter. Pet stores and a lot of people pass on misinformation about Bettas.

Check your PH and ammonia levels. If you go to PetSmart, they test it for free. ;) If you do test the levels, any amount of ammonia is a bad thing, even if it is in the safe range.

Is he swollen at all? Could be swim bladder if he is swollen. I'll check back in a bit, if you're able to post the levels or whether or not he's swollen.

Filter, yes, cannot stress that enough. lol They need a low current filter though, such as Marina is GREAT for Bettas. It hardly causes a ripple and has a sponge filter and it's like 20 bucks, I think for a 10 gallon.

What you mean no filter!? GET A FILTER!! if you didnt do anything like those ammonia nitrates or nitrites or know nothing about the ph, and the water are from the sink or shower then GET A FILTER!! so it can kill all the chlorine and get quick cure to kill the chlorine too for backup (they are sold at wallmart for $2.59) get it asap now.
