Question about driving a BMW in M/S position.....?

Honestly i have no idea what that is.

I have a 2003 BMW 325xi, not too much of a car person.. but i do love them. So my BM says the usual P D N R but it also has a position named M/S....What does that mean.

I would really appreciate it if you could tell me EXACTLY how to drive it. every aspect of how to drive it. very detailed please. I really hope this is some sort of manual driving thing. i always wanted to learn how to drive a stick shift. im sure some ppl are laughing at me. lol. o well. yes im a guy and dont know much about cars. but this could help. so how do i drive it. the rpms. how fast. everything plz car fanatics!!!!!!1

It's manual/sport. if you push the shifter to the left you go right into sport. sport is still fully automatic but changes shift points and throttle response for a more spirited drive.

Try it. when you are in sport your car will downshift while slowing, will hold a higher gear through the corner, and if you are at high rpms take you foot off the gas and you'll see that the car will wait a little longer before shifting (it's assuming you will gas it again). S (sport) is a great for a automatic person to have a little fun.

The M is manual, it's a manually shifted transmission will no clutch. it will hold whatever gear you want until you get past the redline. to access Manual, just push the shifter up or down from the sport position.

This is the M/S mode with the + and -, I'm assuming

For optimum fuel efficiency, regular drive mode should be engaged. Feeling perky? Slam it in M/S and give'r.

When in this mode, the transmission will hold whatever gear you choose until you manually select to go up or down a gear, or until you either a) Redline your RPMs, in which case the transmission will shift up a gear or b), your RPM comes down to an idle (like during braking) in which case it will shift down a gear.

To optimize performance, such as for use on a track, you constantly want to be in your power range. Max HP is usually 6500 RPM, and max torque around 3500 RPM. So for performance sake, you want to be in between those two numbers.

When accelerating, get it up to 6500 and shift up. When deaccelerating, when you get to 4000 or 3500, shift down, so that if you need to get on the gas again quickly, you are already in the desired gear.

When cornering, you want to be in an ideal gear. Don't under estimate shifting up a gear. Some people corner with the RPM high, and believe it or not your car is much more stable and will corner better if you just take the extra gear, and consequently when you come out of the corner, you that's one less shift you need to do.

Other than that, practice makes perfect dude
