G.E.D troubles??? please help :/?

I'm almost done with my junior year in highschool but since im in florida virtual school homeschooling program my only option is getting a GED because they dont give highschool diplomas so i rather get it over with now instead of waiting until the end of my senior year... but heres my questions...

Is the GED hard??

Am I still going to be able to get into at least community colleges with a GED?

When i get into a community college do i have to do other test since i have a GED?

And my last question is I'm 16 right now and my birthday isnt until september... if i wanted to start community college in August will i still be allowed or no because of my age??

please helpp :(

thanks so much in advance!

I'm assuming that since you say that FLVS doesn't give diplomas that you are a registered homeschooler (either in or out of FL that uses FLVS) and not a public school student enrolled in a Florida public school at home program issues diplomas (because there most certainly options out there where FLVS does give dimplomas). The GED should never be considered an option for homeschoolers. As long as you are legally homeschooling for where you live, your parents are the ones who make/buy etc your diploma if you want one (you do know a diploma is just a decorative certificate don't you?)

as long as your have homeschooled legally you don't need a GED to start community college, (or any public college and most private colleges).

No, no no... you have it wrong.

Homeschooling is legal. You don't need a GED.

Just because FLVS doesn't print you out a diploma and send it to you does NOT mean you have not graduated and it does not mean you're a drop out. GEDs are for drop outs. A printed diploma is only a symbol of your completion of school-- it's for hanging on your wall.

My daughter unschooled (no program whatsoever-- not even a textbook) through high school in Florida... she won a full scholarship to university with no problems at all. No diploma, no GED, not even grades from me.

Don't get your GED... all you need to get into a college as a homeschooler are your transcripts and your standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, etc).

Colleges don't ask for diplomas when you apply. They ask for transcripts, test scores, essays, letters of recommendation, etc.

Colleges know homeschoolers don't all come from accredited programs. They don't expect the same paperwork from homeschoolers.

You can get your GED now, but warning-- it will be a stigma and a set back. Without a GED you could apply to Harvard and Yale as a homeschooler (if you can provide good enough SAT scores & an impressive application, they might even take you). With a GED, you'd have to start out in a Jr. or Community college.

If you want to start community college now, in FL you can do it through the dual enrollment program. All you have to do is pass either the verbal or the math (or both) sections on the college entrance exam... if you do, classes are free. But you can't do it if you get a GED.

My daughter did dual enrollment as a homeschooler; earned over 50 credits by the time she was ready to move on to regular college.

"GED" on your forms is going to bite you in the rear end.

    Should I Get a GED?

As for starting community college, it might depend on your age. Some cc's will ban you from attending if you're under a certain age, you'll have to look at your state laws.

Look into dual enrollment as well. Might be an excellent option.
