Well I'm not really sure if you are talking about in real life, or in h20, so I'll do both
In h20 it varies where the girls can get new powers, lose control over their powers, transform and not be able to transform back until the moon sets, and I think that's it.
In real life, the real mermaids(which are real) are not effect by the full moon, that is only from h20, so If you became one you don't have to worry about hiding from the full moon.

I am not aware of anything,I think they can watch the full moon w/o any fish part turning human. Maybe they just have to stay a merperson for the duration, IDK
