What is the historical lineage of the current people living in Pakistan?
I would like to know which groups/empires (ie Mughal, Persian....) they belonged to going back to maybe which genus they evolved from. here is an article that made me think of this question http://news.discovery.com/human/genetics-neanderth...

Pakistan is a country - a political entity. It has a large population, many different ethnic groups, and a long and complex history. So there is no single way to characterise "Pakistani people" as though they were a single ethnic group; it's a very diverse multi-ethnic state and different people in Pakistan have very different historical origins.
Punjabis are the single largest language and ethnic group; they are about 40% of the total population. Pashtuns, Baluchis, Sindhis and Seraikis are also large ethnic groups. There is a significant number of Mohajirs, people originally from India who moved to Pakistan around partition in 1947 because they were Muslim; they can be of any Indian ethnic origin. Plus there are significant minorities from all kinds of places: the Sheedis (descendants of black Africans); Anglo-Indians; Arabs, Iranians, Tajiks, Goanese, and so on. There is even a significant number of multi-ethnic Roman Catholics in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan: one million people turned up in Karachi to see the Pope when he visited.
In very general broad terms, the majority of people in Pakistan are from south west Asian, Indo-Iranian background. The history and culture has been influenced b innumerable factors over the millennia. The only realistic way to characterise Pakistanis collectively would be to say they are from a diverse, multi-ethnic State with a broadly Islamic, South Asian character.
Hope it helps.
