Fluid buildup in ears causing speech delays?

My son has been having problems with his ears for a little while. 6 months. The fluid bold up caused a speech development delay cause he can't hear very well. We are trying another medication and last resort tubes. He also is going to have time with a speech therapist. He is perfectly normal in every other way. Has anyone else ever dealt with this? I'm hoping as soon as he can hear good, he will catch up quickly. He scored 20 out of 60 on the speech assessment and 60/60 on all else.

I worked with a boy as educational assistant who didn't get tubes in until well into childhood and it severely delayed him. The sooner you can get him hearing the better. As soon as he got tubes in, he made really good progress and continues to do so (though I no longer work with him I do keep in touch).
