What are some more unknown but should be known books to read?

I was wondering if there are any good books out there that aren't very well known. I love reading books of all types but I am kinda tired of reading the same old stuff. It's more fun to read books that have never really been that popular in my opinion. So I want to know if anyone knew some good unpopular but should have been books i can read.

I think people avoid certain well known books because they think they know what they are about. "IT" by Stephen King is a awesome character Development story but people won't read it because of the Horror designation. You can try Jonathon Livingston Seagull or Watership Down or look into books by Tim Dorsey (comedies about a killer set in Florida).

"Sorcery and Cecelia" by Patricia C. Wrede and Caroline Stervermer. It's like a cross of Harry Potter and Jane Austen.

"Mimal" by...I forgot. It's virtually unheard of but one of the most brilliant books I've ever read.

"Veronika Decides to Die" by Paulo Coelho.

"The Shadow of the Wind" by Carlos Ruiz Zafón.

    "River Boy" by Tim Bowler.
