Full-sized spare tyre for Mitsubishi Lancer?
I'm considering buying a Lancer sportback for my next car, but would prefer to option a full-sized spare tyre, as I believe space-savers are inherently unsafe. Has anyone done this who's bought one? Is there enough space in the spare wheel well for a full size spare? Will the floor of the boot/trunk still sit flat if there's a full sized spare underneath it?

What you could do is buy the the same wheel/tire and store it in your garage. Then when you do get an unrepairable flat, use the spare to get you home, then swap it for the full size you have stored. Then you can take the flat to get fixed at your convenience.

A spare tire is only meant to get you home or to a shop to get a repair. A new rim and tire are going to cost $100 to $150, why would you want all that money sitting in the trunk, that you may never use. I have bought 15 year old cars, and the factory spare is still there, never used.

Unfortunately, no. A full sized tyre will simply not fit in the area of the compact spare. It would have to sit on top, and eat of a goodly amount of cargo area in your boot.
