If you believe in a soul, and you believe that the only way to save...?

If you believe in a soul, and you believe that the only way to save your soul from eternal suffering and damnation is to believe in a God, then doesn't the desire for self-preservation actively filter out and deny ANY information, logic, or reasoning that goes against the belief in this God/religion?

How is any meaningful dialog supposed to take place when facts, logic, and reason are denied before being considered?

Update:

I was raised Catholic. I did not start from the position that there is no God. I was raised in a religious environment and came to the conclusion that there is no evidence to support a belief in God; nor does my "eternal soul" rely on any particular belief system. I could, on a whim, choose to start believing in ANY religion. Theists on the other hand, are reliant on their belief system for their eternal well-being, and are thus deeply invested in it.

@joseph8638: I'm sure he would if there was evidence for said god's existence.

If you have determined that there is no God before even beginning the conversation, how is any meaningful dialog supposed to take place when facts, logic, and reason are denied before being considered?

Why would you entertain a dialog about the god you say doesn't exist?
