I work on Saturday and Sunday should I be killed for working on the Sabbath?

Exodus 35:2

I work in the Bible belt... why don't all these good Christians start killing one another, or even refuse to work on the Sabbath?

Update:

"For six days, work is to be done, but the seventh day shall be your holy day, a Sabbath of rest to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it must be put to death."

Whoever does any work on it must be put to death.

Pretty cut and dry to me. I guess people don't really believe what the Bible says after all.

Update 2:

"I work on Saturday and Sunday" ... SATURDAY and Sunday.

In Colossians 2:16-17, the apostle Paul declares, “Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.” Similarly, Romans 14:5 states, “One man considers one day more sacred than another; another man considers every day alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind.” These Scriptures make it clear that, for the Christian, Sabbath-keeping is a matter of spiritual freedom, not a command from God. Sabbath-keeping is an issue on which God’s Word instructs us not to judge each other. Sabbath-keeping is a matter about which each Christian needs to be fully convinced in his/her own mind.

In the early chapters of the book of Acts, the first Christians were predominantly Jews. When Gentiles began to receive the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ, the Jewish Christians had a dilemma. What aspects of the Mosaic Law and Jewish tradition should Gentile Christians be instructed to obey? The apostles met and discussed the issue in the Jerusalem council (Acts 15). The decision was, “It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God. Instead we should write to them, telling them to abstain from food polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from the meat of strangled animals and from blood” (Acts 15:19-20). Sabbath-keeping was not one of the commands the apostles felt was necessary to force on Gentile believers. It is inconceivable that the apostles would neglect to include Sabbath-keeping if it was God’s command for Christians to observe the Sabbath day.

A common error in the Sabbath-keeping debate is the concept that the Sabbath was the day of worship. Groups such as the Seventh Day Adventists hold that God requires the church service to be held on Saturday, the Sabbath day. That is not what the Sabbath command was. The Sabbath command was to do no work on the Sabbath day (Exodus 20:8-11). Nowhere in Scripture is the Sabbath day commanded to be the day of worship. Yes, Jews in Old Testament, New Testament, and modern times use Saturday as the day of worship, but that is not the essence of the Sabbath command. In the book of Acts, whenever a meeting is said to be on the Sabbath, it is a meeting of Jews, not Christians.

When did the early Christians meet? Acts 2:46-47 gives us the answer, “Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.” If there was a day that Christians met regularly, it was the first day of the week (our Sunday), not the Sabbath day (our Saturday) (Acts 20:7; 1 Corinthians 16:2). In honor of Christ’s resurrection on Sunday, the early Christians observed Sunday not as the “Christian Sabbath” but as a day to especially worship Jesus Christ.

Is there anything wrong with worshipping on Saturday, the Jewish Sabbath? Absolutely not! We should worship God every day, not just on Saturday or Sunday! Many churches today have both Saturday and Sunday services. There is freedom in Christ (Romans 8:21; 2 Corinthians 3:17; Galatians 5:1). Should a Christian practice Sabbath-keeping, that is, not working on Saturdays? If a Christian feels led to do so, absolutely, yes (Romans 14:5). However, those who choose to practice Sabbath-keeping should not judge those who do not keep the Sabbath (Colossians 2:16). Further, those who do not keep the Sabbath should avoid being a stumbling block (1 Corinthians 8:9) to those who do keep the Sabbath. Galatians 5:13-15 sums up the whole issue: “You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.”

all of us understand for particular that Saturday is the seventh day of the week because of the fact a sparkling checklist has been preserved by the two historic Christianity and the Jews. After the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple interior the 1st century A. D., the Jews left the holy land and settled in lands everywhere in the well-known worldwide. everywhere they have been discovered, they have been discovered watching the comparable weekly cycle. it fairly is possible that one Jew might awaken one Saturday morning and think of it fairly is Friday, even nonetheless it fairly is on no account achieveable that an entire united states of america scattered worldwide could make that mistake. So, needless to say, there is not any doubt in any respect as to which day is the seventh and that's the 1st. Time has not been lost! to boot, all of us understand from the writings of the earliest church fathers that there became a sparkling distinction between Saturday and Sunday. some Christians spoke of the two days, acknowledging that the former became the advent Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, the day all the Jews spoke of. Sunday became stated as the "first day" and additionally well-known because of the fact the "8th day," because of the fact it became the day after the seventh day, or weekly Sabbath. it fairly is authentic that throughout Europe there has been an attempt to make Monday the 1st day of the week, yet our calendar nonetheless has Sunday because of the fact the 1st day of the week. Monday is seen the 1st day of the artwork week, yet not the 1st day of the traditional calendar week.

    John 8:7 KJV

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

We are not under the law, but that doesn't give us the right to break God's commandments. Romans 6:15 KJV

What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.

We can stone you, but we would have to be sinless. Even so, compassion for fellow man would not allow us to. 1 John 2:4 KJV

He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

    2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

    Nope!

    Beware of HOGIE!

He devotes his life here just to telling other not to obey the Ten Commandments.

    Why?

Because he is to proud and arrogant and deceived to realize he was in a CULT for 25 years that followed the Herbert Armstrong movement that kept all the feasts days that Paul said were abolished at the cross.

His most common attack on the law of God is stating that we are not party to the Old Covenant. And yet this proud fool in his deception never mentions that God wrote His Ten Commandment law in the hearts and minds of His people. He likes to twist scripture to try and prove a lie while accusing others of doing what he is guilty of and hence is a hypocrite and he is too far gone to know it. He works for Satan now.

Yo can work on Sunday all you want as that is nit the Sabbath to begin with.

And did you note that not only Sabbath breakers were stoned to death but adulterers as well (Leviticus 20:10). Those who broke the third Commandment were also put to death (Leviticus 24:16). Surely no one feels that adultery and blasphemy are any less wrong today just because God prescribed death for such sins in the Old Testament.

The fact is that being put to death applied to more than just the Sabbath Commandment. It was in fact the penalty for any of the Ten Commandments broken willfully. However, note that it did not apply when they were broken in ignorance, meaning not willfully so death was easily avoided by not being willfully disobedient.

Under the theocracy of Israel, God ruled the people directly. He commanded punishment immediately for certain flagrant acts of disobedience. Today the same sins are equally abhorrent to God such as breaking HIS Sabbath, but punishment is delayed until the Day of Judgment. So now Jesus says, “He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone.” John 8:7

@EDIT. Those who quote Colossians 2:16 do not understand the difference between the sacrificial law and the moral law and hence nothing they say on the law can be trusted. The sacrificial law was nailed to the cross. The moral law was not. Paul in verse 14 says what is in verse 16 are the “Ordinances” which are the sacrificial law. Note in Ezekiel 45:17 that the sacrificial law had “meat and drink offerings”, “feasts days”, “new moons” and “Sabbaths” (PLURAL There was more than one sacrificial Sabbath) Using the more accurate translation of KJV Bible you will see that what is in Ezekiel 45:17 is exactly what is in Colossians 2:16 as this is what was practised to make reconciliation for sin and was clarified by Paul calling them the “Ordinances.” The yearly Sabbaths are the sacrificial Sabbaths such as Passover and the Day of Atonement etc. Most just see the word Sabbath and jump to conclusions. Those who study scripture will know the difference.

Ezekiel 45:17 “And it shall be the prince's part to give burnt offerings, and MEAT offerings, and DRINK offerings, in the FEASTS [holyday], and in the NEW MOONS, and in the SABBATHS, in all solemnities of the house of Israel: he shall prepare the SIN OFFERING, and the meat offering, and the burnt offering, and the peace offerings, to make RECONCILIATION for the house of Israel.”

Colossians 2:14-16 “Blotting out the handwriting of ORDINANCES [Mosaic Law/Sacrificial law] that was AGAINST us, which was CONTRARY to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; [What was practiced for sin before Christ] … 16 Let no man therefore judge you in MEAT, or in DRINK [offerings], or in respect of an holyday [FEAST DAY], or of the NEW MOON [MONTH], or of the SABBATH DAYS: [YEARS]”

Who but someone trying to avoid spending quality time with God on His day would think Romans 14:5 is referring to the fourth Commandment of God? The word “Sabbath” is NOT found anywhere in the ENTIRE chapter. Henceforth it is an assumption and a very bad one as EVERY single Bible commentary such as Gills and Barnes and Matthew Henry say NO, it is not talking about the Sabbath at all but meat sacrificed to idols and the feast days that existed because of sin and ended, but some felt they still had to keep these days such as Passover and Paul is saying not to judge them and condemn them. http://www.colossians-2-16.com/romans-14-5.html

satan has assaulted this commandment with ferocity. we barely even think about it don't we? because we're 3500 years removed from a system that honored the sabbath and 1800 years into a system that confuses it with sunday. do what you can, if you must work that day, God will not condemn you for it. He may rebuke you for it, but not kill you. wherever you are, make it a day of holy convocation.

Sunday is not the Sabbath. Saturday is the Sabbath. Don't commit adultery either. Adulterers and fornicators were stoned in the old testament.

Jesus said in the New Testament "if you love me keep my Commandments."

    John 14:15
