I think cash games are better but harder to play. I agree with you that MTTs are significantly more luck based than cash games. In an MTT, 10% of the field is to be in the money. I would estimate a good player has a slightly higher than 10% chance though, but not over 20%. The problem with the low stakes MTT's is that in the beginning levels it's all about accumulating a chip stack. So you've got a ton of people pushing all in with AK and big pairs. It's very typical to see AK vs QQ or AQ vs JJ in the beginning stages. This is because people mainly care about the payout of the top 2%, where most of the money is at. I have to say though, when most of the field is eliminated in an MTT and everyone is closer to the money, most people play more conservatively and the tournament starts to become like a cash game. Once everyone is in the money, it starts to become crazy again, and usually short stacks that survived the bubble start moving all in with pairs or big draws on the flop. So MTTs definitely have more variance and luck involved.

I think cash games are better because you don't have a need to wager your entire money most of the time and also you get rewarded instantly (with cash, not less worth chips) for playing good and making good reads. Cash games allow you to play more creatively and more instinctively. You might fold a flush in an MTT even if you think you're ahead just to survive which won't happen in a cash game. Also you might be playing extremely good in an MTT and still get knocked out by running into aces when holding kings. So all the time you invested goes down the drain from one hand.

You've got to play the game that you're best at. If that's MTT's, then stick with MTT's.

The goal there is to put yourself into a winning position enough times to be profitable. The goal in cash games is different. In cash games, the goal is to win someone's stack, or at least grind out a profit.
