Can we just be best friends?

That sounds like the situation I was just(and still am) in right now.

I met this guy and he was being all flirty and we talked nonstop, he called me his bestfriend, we went on a date, we hung out like literally everyday, then he drops me for another girl. He eventually apologized and we went back to being friends. As of today, we're pretty close and he trusts me with everything.

So yes, I think you guys can be best friends. It just depends how you guys act about it and how it plays out. As long as those feelings are mutual, there should be no problem!

I think when he called you best friend, he wanted you see how you would respond. If you took it well, he probably assumes you guys can be comfortable around one another. And then maybe, he will ask you how you feel about him.

Bottom line is : don't be afraid to take it slow. Many times, people take things to fast, especially when it comes down to a relationship, and you miss all the good things.

He probably sees you're not responding to his advances as he hopes so he calls you best friend to make you feel close to him & open up to him. After you open up to him he's gonna draw back just a little to make you want him more, then he'll try making his serious move.
