What is good about this computer-for my major?

I am going to major in computer information technology next year, and I already know most of the specs I need and the brand of laptop I have been recommended is a Lenovo. What are your guys' opinions on this brand? Also, in my spare time-be it there is some- I plan to do some gaming, nothing intense but definitely something that requires some nice battery life. Here is are two links to the potential candidates: http://m.lenovo.com/#!/products/notebook/ideapad/z... & http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results....

The basic specs are quad core processor, 15" screen, and a 10 key pad. If anyone else has a suggestion, please feel free to share. Or additional specs! Thanks!

Update:

P.S. I know I am a basic dummy in what I want to do, but that's what college is for. And the main uses would be writing code (hence the needed screen width), writing papers-so some nice memory space, and just minoresque gaming- i.e. Diablo 3, mmorpgs, nothing serious. I dig old games anyhow.

damn, you really dont seem to know computer hardware at all for someone interested in going into a computer field lol :3

And i'll also let you in on a secret. Brand makes literally ZERO difference. All brands make good/bad models, all brands aim for max profit, so will use cheaper hardware, etc.

Every computer you linked are aimed for gaming, and only gaming. They use very slow quad cores (they are like 1.4ghz), and they come with graphics integrated in the cpu. So its definitely not something you want unless you ONLY focus is gaming. And they are only ok at best for gaming.

You dont really mention want you are looking to do with the computer, but id say look for an 2nd gen i3/i5 and just use integrated graphics (unless you are wanting to play games on this).

EDIT: ok well what i would suggest you to get is:

17.3" laptop with a 1600x900 resolution (you will want a larger resolution, and only 17" laptop or the $800+ laptops come with resolutions above 1366x768, which that resolution blows hardcore)

As for specs, id recommend core 2nd gen i3/i5, 4-8gb of ram, and look for one with like a nvidia gt540m graphics card, which should be able to handle most all games on med settings.
